Winter Storm Warning issued for Southeast Wisconsin

A WINTER STORM WARNING will go into effect from 9 a.m. Thursday through 6 a.m. Saturday for the following counties: Kenosha, Racine, Washington, Ozaukee, Milwaukee, Sheboygan, Walworth, Waukesha, Dodge, Fond Du Lac, and Jefferson.

Blizzard conditions are possible. Winds could gust as high as 50 mph. Portions of east-central, south-central, and southeast Wisconsin are expected to see snow Thursday morning through late Friday night. Travel could be difficult to impossible. Widespread blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. Hazardous conditions could also impact the morning and evening commute, particularly from Thursday evening through Friday evening. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches. Cold wind chills as low as 25 below zero could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes._________

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for the entire area, not necessarily for the amount of snow, but the combination of snow and wind.

Snow arrives tonight, mainly northwest of Metro Milwaukee, where 2-4" of snow is possible overnight. Most of the snow holds off in the Milwaukee area until tomorrow morning.

Periods of snow are expected on Thursday with another 3-5" of accumulation possible everywhere. An intense cold front sweeps the area tomorrow afternoon.

Temperatures will crash and the wind will ramp up. The wind will gust as high as 50 mph by tomorrow night, causing considering blowing and drifting of snow. The wind chill also dips as low as -30.

Some additional wrap-around snow is possible on Friday. Long-distance travel will be dangerous from Thursday night through Friday. Bitter cold and blowing snow conditions into the Christmas Holiday Weekend.

Winds will persist into Saturday.

Sunshine breaks back out on Sunday as the winds slowly subside. Highs will reach into the teens.

After a few flurries late Sunday night into Monday, highs will return into the 20s next week.
